Not enough comparable cattle for a market comparison. Demand and selling
interest was light. As the CME cattle pits continue to struggle in gaining
ground this week, many buyers are scratching their heads trying to figure
out where they can procure cattle to make it in the black when they close a
pen out. Wet and cool weather has continued to delay corn planting across
Nebraska. Per NASS week ending May 5th corn planting in Nebraska was 35 %
complete compared to 38% last year and 47 % for the 5 year average. In
Wyoming barley planted 88 percent compared to 81 percent last year, with 58
percent emerged compared to 53 last year. Sugar beets planted at 65 percent
compared to 51 percent last year and corn plantings at 11 percent compared
to 33 percent last year. Feedlot trade occurred mostly on Wednesday with
live sales dropping 3.00 to 4.00 lower from 120.00-121.00 and dressed sales
4.00 to 6.00 lower from 189.00 to 194.00. Some of the lower prices on the
dressed trades are for 15-30 day shipment. Direct prices are current FOB
with a 2-3 percent shrink or equivalent, with a 10-25 cent slide on calves
and 8-10 cent slide on feeders from base weight. Delivered prices include
freight, commissions and other expenses. Current sales are up to 14 days
delivery. Receipts comprised of 100 percent heifers with 100 percent over
600 lbs.
